The Alameda-Weehawken Burrito Tunnel

The launch tube for the burritos lies just under the tunnel mouth and looks like what it is: an enormous gun. Every four seconds a `slug' of ten burritos, white with frost, ratchets into the breech. A moment later it flies into the tunnel with a loud hiss of compressed gas, and the lights dim briefly as banks of powerful electromagnets accelerate the burritos to over two hundred miles an hour. By the time they pass Stockton three minutes later the burritos will be traveling faster than the Concorde, floating on an invisible magnetic cushion as they plunge into the lithosphere.

I wish this was real. It really should be. IMHO, it would only have to be built as far as Minneapolis. That would save a fortune on construction costs.

Does it go the other way, too? I've had some crazy NYC pizza and cannoli cravings.

Packet collisions would destroy flyover country.

Depending on your point of view, that could be considered a feature...

Then there was the actual command line script for generating and faxing burrito orders to a taqueria in Mountain View.

I have eaten at that taqueria. I remember thinking that script was really cool. But that was back in the caveman days, when fax machines were still novel.

Macej Ceglowski is one of very few coders with cooler post-coding career paths than you.

I wish it were true, but I'm back in coding land.

As awesome as that would be I have to agree with the article that New Yorkers would just totally fuck us over. Not necessarily intentionally, but still, we'd get fucked and end up going without burritos unless you went to some low-end neighborhood taqueria.

This isn't in Alameda, it's in Berkeley. That kind of sloppiness just makes me question the veracity of the whole article.
