"We have no record of any child with such a complete third arm," Chen said. The boy also was born with just one kidney and may have problems that could lead to curvature of the spine, local media reports said. Jie-jie cried when either of his left arms was touched, but smiled and responded normally to other stimuli, the reports said.

Update: They chopped one off. That page also claims to have video, but it won't play for me.

If only "professional porn surfer" was a real career...

Though I suppose that heavy metal drummer might be a nice fall-back.

I wonder what makes them think that removing one of the arms will make it significantly better for him. Seeing how both seem to hurt, and how both are pretty well-developed.

What if he’s left-handed? I mean, lower-left-handed? :P

What freaks me the most is not that the poor little bugger has an extra arm, but that if you think about it, the vast majority of the genetic mutation stories which hit the media seem to originate in China. My question is, "Why?" Is it simply a matter of population; the surging masses in the PRC simply produce more mutations, or is it something else...
Y'know, Third World-ish country emerging into the 21st Century after an age of oppressive regimes... Who knows what they've been slipping to the populace? Think back to all the experiments which went on in places like East Germany and Romania.
I don't want to sound like an anti-communist conspiracy theorist (there are already too many of those), and China is frankly, one of my favorite places ever. But it makes you think.

Well, if we take the logic of "Kung Fu Hustle" to heart, if one in a million are instantly born as "The One" in that they born as martial art masters of a supernatural nature, AND China is a nation of roughly a billion people, then it would be safe to assume that there about ONE THOUSAND of these superbeings running around China. Imagine that. A thousand people who have the ability of the Buddhist Palm, that loud screaming thing, leaping like frogs and that bendy rubbery thing that the Landlord did. The extra arm boy is the next level.

China really look into this. Imagine what kind of super army of "Ones" they could create. I'm actually excited now.

Here's a great site about one particular case:

I found these after watching the movie "Freaks" that's been uploaded to google video. It's a good film.

Thank you for sharing those fascinating links.

The photos were mind-blowing, but the stories were even more bewildering. Quality stuff.

I also found it somewhat comforting that many of those folks, despite their conditions, managed to find meaning in their lives through work, friendship, love, and some even had kids. Their examples certainly put the difficulties of life that the rest of us complain about in perspective.

Chimerism, as well

(Link)

There are even cases of a single person being made up of two people's separate genetic matter:

This hasn't been fully understood until recently!!

oh, I've been the ignorant yank too. But I didn't think others were serious that this kid was going to be a Kung Fu star because of his 3 arms.
More than 2 arms always makes me think of the Hindu gods.
