[info]marcus132 had a fine idea for rasterbation.
(The movie's going to suck ass, though.)

The first two are good, the others, meh. The last yells "Fark" to me.

They took me about ten minutes total, including googling, so I guess now we know how much effort goes into your typical photoshop contest. I never read Fark or Worth100 or any of that perma-unfunny crap. Thank god for [info]bbfilter so I don't have to hear Cory spooging about them any more either.

Boing without the Boing

(Link)

I'm still trying to get my dialedin.us/boing settings set right, but I seem to have most of the irritating Boing-isms weeded out.

My own feed settings were meant to kill off self-reference ("Only $500 for Cory's new book!"), the word "zen" (using it to mean "absurd" only throws you up several notches on the honky-meter), as well as "mashup", "podcast", and "blog", and a few other don't-care-shut-up-shut-up-shut-up topics. I saw a list of annoying boingboing terms in the comments to an entry here once, and meant to make a feed link out of those, but seem to have been distracted by zombies or something.

Of course, the dialedin feed-sifter thing has its flaws. For some reason my search completely removes ALL of Xeni's entries. I like to entertain the notion that she really IS a BoingBot, regurgitating old entries and Annalee Newitz articles through a markov grinder, and thus triggering a boingword filter in each post.

If someone finds the reason for this, I'd love to know why it is. But I'd probably still leave it in just to enjoy the peace and quiet.

The last one is genius. Seriously. Totally... I can't decide if its psuedo-Magritte (Ceci n'est pas une femme.) or what... mind if I make an icon of it?

You got me there.
Not as impressive as it might be, since I don't know French.

Is there a Ceci n'est pas une femme? Or was that a pun on the same painting I was thinking of? I apologize for being so ignorant about art. It is usually not a problem.

There is not a "Ceci n'est pas une femme", but I think that last photoshop job is clever enough to suffice. :)

Actually, it is.

"pipe" is also French slang for fellatio.

Re: Actually, it is.

I'll take your word for it, as I don't know otherwise.

I had a french friend once, and he told me some phrase which referred to fellatio. It translated roughly as you would expect, and the direct object sounded exactly like "peep". I sort of assumed that it might be spelled "pipe" or similar. Maybe the slang term is a shortened version of that phrase?

Do you have an opinion on the games? I thought the trailer looked fairly true to them. Not, of course, that it isn't always possible for videogame movies to suck horribly despite all expectations.

Never played them, hate RPGs. But there has never been a good movie based on a video game, and this one looks even more clichéd and derivative than most.

Oh, I dunno. The first Mortal Kombat film is a great amount of fun, in a fantasy/kungfu remake of 'Enter the Dragon' sort of way. And I don't even play the MK games.

But then, most cinematic video game adaptations aren't written by Roger "Pulp Fiction/Killing Zoe" Avary.

I give it half a chance. Go watch the Super Mario Bros. movie first just to set your expectations low.

Well, that's a hard argument to refute, I admit (though I did think the first Mortal Kombat movie was fun, if not good) -- but this one isn't by Uwe Boll, so that's something.
I think most people don't think of the Silent Hill games as RPGs, but I don't imagine that's a debate you're interested in having.

Silent Hill is definitely not an RPG series. Maybe there's some known feature of the Silent Hill games that triggers Jamie's personal definition, but the typical Silent Hill game definitely does not include leveling, random encounters, or an infantile story line in which a spiky-haired hero saves the world from infinite evil whilst getting all the girls.

I think #7 is creepy because it's slightly... slanted.

If you unfocus your eyes and stare at it a moment she looks like an anime character with a "thoughtful" expression.

p.s. thank you for the http://dialedin.us/boing/ link. That's both hilarious and awesome at the same time. Bye-bye "DRM," "Disney," "mashup," "Cory"...
