| I, for one, welcome our new robotic prom queen overlords |

Show us some ankle, baby: "Takahiro Takeda, postgraduate student of Japan's Tohoku Univ., dances with Partner Ballroom Dance Robot (PBDR) at a factory of Nomura Unison robotic venture company in Chino city, 200-km west of Toyko. The prototype dance partner robot, developped by Japan's Tohoku Univ Professor Kazuhiro Kosuge, enables them to move in all directions with three special wheels by predicting how its partner will mobe with a sensor." And here's the upskirt shot: "Robots on the market include a machine that looks like a machine dressed in bright colors programmed to converse in just enough small talk to stop the elderly from going senile and a doll that articulates the needs of a five-year-old boy. In January, a Tokyo University engineer unveiled a humanoid that can shuffle its feet and wave its hands to preserve a traditional Japanese dance falling out of fashion among young people."

and a doll that articulates the needs of a five-year-old boy.
As long as Japan doesn't give us the doll that articulates the needs of a 13 year old boy, because that would be awfully disturbing.

Michael Jackson could save himself a lot of court time if they did.

Ballroom Dance Dance Revolution. 3-step Waltz at 180 BPM. MADNESS!
yeah, I was wondering about the lack of light-up arrows on the ground. perhaps the robot has a built-in projector or something.
Let me know when they make one that can swing dance.
They should rename it "Toe Crusher".
THE CRUSHINATOR "No pa. I love him."

Remix this with a Realdoll and you might just have yourself the perfect date.
I envision a future where humans don't date humans. Humans date robots. The machines are perfect; they don't cheat, they don't notice your shortcomings, and they don't die.
Somehow, I fail to find this comforting.

Sounds like your future is a spin-off of Bladerunner meets Highlander with robots added in.
Picture this: Rutger Hauer's monologue at the end of Bladerunner with Queen's Who Wants to Live Forever playing in the background.
Add in robot sex, and there's your future?

EX-FOL-IATE! EX-FOL-IATE! EX-FOL-IATE!!!
Wow, it's just like at the end of Disney's Sleeping Beauty where the fairy godmothers keep changing the color of Sleeping Beauty's ballgown between blue and pink. Except it's a dancing robot.
Speaking of Disney, what's with the Minnie Mouse ears?

Soon young Japanese boys will begin "tuning" these with aftermarket parts and racing each other at horrific speeds in a post-apocalyptic radioactive wasteland.

Best mental image this morning, thank you.
Why does that second picture remind me of the photos I see of guys in the 60's and 70's showing off their mainframes?

... and here we can see again how some Japanese men take their fear of human woman to ridiculous extremes.

a humanoid that can shuffle its feet and wave its hands to preserve a traditional Japanese dance falling out of fashion among young people. The Japanese build robots to dance -- so they don't have to. It makes sense, really: aren't robots supposed to do the work that humans don't want to do?
I think I saw that foot-shuffling hand-waving humanoid robot before... | |
